What nutrients/vitamins does meat give you that your body needs? Do we need meat in our diets to be healthy?..?

I have been thinking for a while of becoming a vegetarian (still drinking milk and eating eggs). But I have heard both being a veg is healthy and that being a veg is not. Health is very important to me. I am 18 going to school I have litlle $ to spend on food. Also I don't really know how to cook well. Like I eat a lot of healthy choice dinners, lean cuisine etc.

This is something I want to do. What should I be eating as a substitue for meat? I have tried morningstar farms and boca and like them. But what else can give me the some nutrients meat does? What nutrients/vitamins does meat give you that your body needs? Do we need meat in our diets to be healthy?..?
Meat has a high protein content. It has trace elements like iron and zinc. Meat supplies us with B- vitamins and helps us to "grow and repair". We need protein, not necessarily meat. Nuts like pecans and almonds contain protein as well as fiber, folic acid, magnesium, copper and trace elements like boron and iron. Soybeans, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds contain good sources of fiber, magnesium, etc. Beans, lentils, wheat cereal, oats, also provide us with protein.

I was a vegetarian at a very early age and I dont remember if it gave me more energy. Being a picky eater and all. I'm not a vegetarian anymore, since I'm trying to gain weight (its quite impossible to gain weight with a fast metabolism and a vegetarian diet) What will make you feel more vibrant and energetic is not just protein but exercise and plenty of rest. Eat fruits as snacks, and include vegetables in your meals. Drink plain water throughout the day. Coconut water is exactly like gatorade except natural. Its full of electrolytes, and will keep you hydrated and give you more energy. Also for more energy, what I find really wakes me up, is streching. So do some streching and breathing exercises every morning and you'll feel more energetic.

I'm 18 too...and I also don't know how to cook very well, but I'm trying. So don't be afraid of the stove. Remember we can learn from our mistakes. Burn food its okay, next time you'll remember how to do it better..and look up some easy and quick recipes online.

And since you're not going to eat fish or meat, I recommend taking an omega 3 fish oil capsule (aka vitamin e), as well as a vitamin B complex (not expensive)

=D take care and have fun at schoolWhat nutrients/vitamins does meat give you that your body needs? Do we need meat in our diets to be healthy?..?
meat contains lots of protein, as well as healthy animal fats. however, it is also very unsustainable. if you decide to go veg, make sure to get lots of protein and fat from other sources, like dairy and eggs if those are still options, as well as nuts and beans. you may want to get a protein powder supplement as well. What nutrients/vitamins does meat give you that your body needs? Meat gives you protein, so you should eat nuts or beans to replace the protein that your body would usually take from meat.
