China owns 768 Billion as of March 2009 (the latest figure available) out of just over 11 Trillion. All foreign holdings add up to about $3.3 Trillion.
That means the other $8 billion is held by us here at home.
Who is the single biggest holder of our national debt? The US government at about $4.3 Trillion. The other 3.3 Trillion is owned by US companies and the American people.
Basically, China would be a distant 3rd on the list.
