How do I type stars and hashes on network unlock on Samsung F480?

I've got a code to unlock my Samsung F480 which contains both stars and hashes. When putting my new SIM into my phone, it asks me for my Network lock code. I can't type this in because there is no option to add stars or hashes. Does anyone know a way around this? It's doing my head in, I really need my new SIM in.How do I type stars and hashes on network unlock on Samsung F480?
I think if you hold a button it becomes symbols

idk about your phone but it works with mine

or if its a qwerty phone press alt then one of the symbols
