Vegetarians!! Do you get grossed out by non-meat substitutes, such as fake ground beef?

I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian. For dinner I had vegetarian chili that had fake ground beef in it (the Morningstar Farms kind). I've never had that fake beef stuff before, and the texture kinda grossed me out because it was like the texture of real beef. I'll stick with veggie burgers (that don't have a fake meat texture).

What about you?Vegetarians!! Do you get grossed out by non-meat substitutes, such as fake ground beef?
Same here, but I'm vegan. Since it looks like meat it still gives me the creeps.
I've been a vegetarian for nearly 40 years and I don't really feel the need for something that simulates the taste and texture of meat. But for those that do the Morningstar Farms products are OK.

Actually Morningstar Farms is owned by a company named Worthington. The parent company makes a line of products that is FAR bigger than Morningstar Farms and is usually lower in salt and artificial flavorings.

Next time you want a "burger" try grilling up a couple of big Portobello mushroom caps and then fix them up like burgers, they can be GREAT! Google for recipes.

ADDED - I wanted to add this - as the posters above me all appear to be women this really will not apply to them but there is a large body of evidence that males eating large quantities of processed soy products like the fake meat items are exposed to an estrogen-like substance that is a byproduct of the processing of the soy protein. This substance can cause breast development in SOME males if ingested in large enough amounts. Just a thought. (Sorry girls, there is no evidence that it has the same effect on females.) ;)Vegetarians!! Do you get grossed out by non-meat substitutes, such as fake ground beef?
When i became a vegetarian,i never tried fake meat like the fake chicken or the fake beef or any kind of fake meat but nearly a year after becoming a vegetarian i tried fake mince and i hated it,the texture tasted like real meat and i was like is this real or fake because it tastes like real meat,so then after that i tried a couple of other fake meats and i just thought the same,so i just decided to not have fake because i was like if i don't want to eat the real meat why would i want to have fake meat, having like the same texture too me,oh and i hate how it looks aswell
Yeah I never got the fact that it had to LOOK like meat (we wanted to NOT eat meat)

I suppose it was so you could 'blend in' and look like you were eating spaghetti bolagnase or something, haha. It wouldn't made the meat eaters at the table feel awkward.Vegetarians!! Do you get grossed out by non-meat substitutes, such as fake ground beef?
No offence, But I hate just how it sounds. I tryed it, and it tasted horrible. Im sorry to anyone who like it, but I just hate it.
I am untroubled by faux meats, generally I prefer tvp to the faux burger just because it is a lot cheaper.
Same. It's for people that miss meat
