Im trying to connect an xbox 360 to a hdtv, the samsung BN59-01006A, but i dont know how to make it work, can anyone please help? How do you connect an xbox360 to a samsung BN59-01006A tv?
That's not a TV model number, that's a remote control model number. You would give that number to someone if you were looking to replace the remote.
Xbox 360 really only has 3 options for connecting to a TV. So just look at the back of your TV and figure out what options it gives you, then match that up to the Xbox 360 cable options. If the same options exist on both devices then you're good to go.
The Xbox 360 comes with a special A/V plug with a whole bundle of cables on the other end. There should be Green, Blue, and Red (component video) and Yellow (composite video). Those would be thicker cables in the bundle. Then there should also be a Red and White thinner set (audio - it works with both component and composite choices).
(1) Component - Green, Blue, Red - is HD compatible. These are basically analogue HD, but they are HD. So if your Samsung has these, you can use these to feed out an HD signal from the Xbox. Then use the Red/White audio cables to feed the TV its audio from the Xbox.
(2) Composite - Yellow - is SD only. This is analog SD. If your Samsung is an HDTV, this won't look great. It will work, but the games won't be super crisp looking. Again use the Red/White audio cables to feed the TV its audio. Only use this if you absolutely must.
Finally, option 3 is HDMI. This is the best option if you can make it happen. The Xbox 360 probably didn't come with this though. You will need to purchase it separately. You can get cheap HDMI cables from Amazon, monoprice, bluejeanscable, newegg, etc. If you're paying more than $5 or $10 for an HDMI cable, you're paying too much. They are all the same, there are loads of consumer reviews proving such.
(3) HDMI - digital HD - This 1 cable carries both video and audio. It can handle every format of HD out there. It is the best choice. You want to unplug the big A/V bundle from the Xbox, and just below that should be the HDMI port. Just find an HDMI port on the Samsung and voila, you're good to go.
Whatever option you do go with, all you then have to do is toggle your Samsung's input selection over to which ever port you decided to use and you should see the signal. So make sure to read what port you're plugging cables into on the back of the TV and then it will be easy to know which one to select from the TV menu.
