Chicken, ground beef, hot dogs, etc.; comparing real meat and fake meat.
I have been a vegetarian and often eat fake meat. The Morningstar Farms fake meats normally cost $3.99 at most stores and $3.32 at Wal-Mart, where I live. Lightlife frozen Smart Cutlet chick'n fillets -- two pieces per package -- cost I don't remember but maybe over $4. And Lightlife refrigerated Smart Tenders are $5.59 for six pieces, two servings!Does fake meat cost a lot more than real meat, per unit of weight? If so, why?
It costs more because the meat industry profits by Americans giving them subsidies to keep the price people pay at the store, restaurant down. Thats all. Just look into agricultural subsidies. Meat is very expensive. Animals have to eat and drink every day for the 4 or so years they are alive. Thats food costs right there. Then, when you go to a fast food restaraunt you see a burger for a dollar and your like Wow! meat is cheap. Its not though, the subsidies keep the fast fooders in business. Its financed by the tax payers.
If were being honest here, The fake meat would be the chicken and the ground beef etc. Since it's basically a way to make people vampires (since people are attracted to meat that's "Red-er")
There is no good nutrion in animal meat. It's not humane, etc.
But the cost depends on where shopping from, Wal-mart (not the best place to buy from.) Sells Faux meat for about 2.95 a box or some where around that. So I consider this cheap than meat since when I use to buy meat it was always 5+.
But again it depends on where you buy it from.

Because your tax dollars are not subsidizing the production of the meat substitutes, but they certainly are subsidizing the production of most meat.
One major reason, supply and demand. People are willing to pay more for "healthier" options. Additionally, the items don't get purchased as frequently, so it goes up in price. I also agree that meat is subsidized a lot more and that will
Stop eating so much fake meat! That stuff is processed crap. It's fine to have the occasional chikn strips, but not all the time. Check out Veganomicon (cookbook). It doesn't use any fake products in it's recipes and they are very accessible. Instead of making sloppy joes with soy crumbles, this recipe uses lentils. Also look online for easy veg*n recipes like at http://blog.fatfreevegan.com.
Hope that helps!Does fake meat cost a lot more than real meat, per unit of weight? If so, why?
I don't know about the price of meat compared to faux meat, but I can tell you why the meat in the U.S. is so cheap: our tax dollars pay to subsidize it. The government pays for the corn and soy etc. that is fed to livestock.
It varies in different situations. But the facts still stand: real meat is MUCH healthier, tastes much better, and is an essential part of the human diet.
