What's the problem with my 8 months old Samsung Digital cam?

I purchased Samsung ES17 Digital Camera 7 months ago. I dropped the cam few months back. But then no issues, it was working perfect except that of few scratches on screen.

Few days ago, suddenly the screen of the cam went Purple in color with vertical lines all over.

And i tried taking a shot, when uploaded to Computer , the picture quality was of a VGA mobile cam at it's worst with full of small black vertical lines all over the photo.

What might be the exact problem?

Does it come under warranty?What's the problem with my 8 months old Samsung Digital cam?
First warranty is not for your mistakes (as in not using a strap). Warranty is for factory mistakes.

How does one drop a camera anyway???
