Well your boyfriend since I'm a guy should try out Kenneth Cole Reaction. Has a slight sour apple smell but the guy still feels masculine at the same time. Or try Hugo brands really popular among both males and females. You can check my sources for info. on "Reaction" way better then rip off brands of other colognes.($50 i think)
